Can I use these adhesive backed sanding sheets by hand or do they need to be used with a machine only?

These abrasive coated liners are specially designed for power tools such as orbital sanders so that they can be securely attached using their pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing without requiring any additional clamps for holding them firmly. In general, we recommend using them with machines when possible because this will ensure maximum precision while minimizing downtime caused by manual labor.

The C-weight paper backing is ideal for sanding applications where edge retention is not a primary requirement. For optimal results, use with 3M™ Elite Random Orbital Sanders.

The Productivity Advantage of 3M™ Stikit™ Discs

The 3M™ Stikit™ system eliminates the time-consuming task of applying adhesive to the disc backing. These high-quality, coated abrasive products come ready to use with a pressure-sensitive adhesive coating on the backside. Attaching them to your disc pad is as simple as pressing on a sticker. The adhesive is pressure-sensitive, so the disc can be easily peeled off of the disc pad, leaving a clean surface for your next disc. A Stikit™ disc must be pressed onto a Stikit™ backup pad (also called a disc pad and sold separately) that is attached to a disc sander, random orbital sander, or stationary disc sander.
