PRODUCT FAQ
-
What makes the 3M Xtract™ Cubitron™ II Paper Disc 732U unique?
The 732U features proprietary ceramic mineral and a smooth, improved pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) grip backing for superior holding power on high-speed machines. It has grinding aid to reduce heat buildup and dual coating technology to resist loading.
-
Can I use this disc on my random orbital sander?
Yes! Its multi-hole pattern helps keep dust away from the work surface, increasing durability and prolonging abrasive life. As always, be sure your sanding tool matches the product’s diameter precisely.
-
How long does each individual paper disc last?
That depends greatly on several variables such as how often it gets changed or cleaned while in use, the type of material being worked with and what kind of machine it is attached to.
-
Is this paper disc safe for metals like aluminum or copper?
Absolutely! The design of its ultra-sharp triangular-shaped ceramic grains quickly break down under light pressure into smaller triangles that wear evenly without fracturing like traditional abrasives do. This reduces metalwork “clog” and extends life.
-
Does this model come in different diameters or grit levels?
The part number indicates both disk size (“5 inch”)and grit level(“80+”). We offer other sizes but not all are set up for vacuum extraction-ready models except some larger grade offerings;please check our website or call your local sales representative with any specific questions you may have about your particular application needs..
These 3M sanding discs are versatile and effective for a wide range of applications, including stock removal on various substrates such as metals, composites, gelcoat, and whitewood. The C-weight paper backing is ideal for sanding applications where edge retention is not a primary requirement. For optimal results, use with 3M™ Elite Random Orbital Sanders.
A complete line of hook-and-loop style 3M™ Hookit™ discs is also available for workspaces where adhesive-backed discs may become contaminated by dust or dirt. Hookit™ discs are often used in applications where a 3M™ Stikit™ disc may be too aggressive, as Hookit™ discs tend to leave finer finishes than adhesive-backed discs. These sanding discs conveniently attach to a hook-and-loop backup disc pad (sold separately), can be removed cleanly and easily, and can be re-used again and again for the extent of the abrasive life.
Sandpaper discs cut better and last longer when dust isn't loading the cutting surface of the abrasives. The proprietary multi-hole pattern on Clean Sanding products evacuates dust at a higher rate than 5- or 6-hole products. This hole design doesn't require alignment of holes with the disc pad, making disc changes quick and simple. Open coat construction means the abrasive grains are placed with space between them to help evacuate dust and other sanding debris and avoid clogging the cutting edge of the grains. The load-resistant coating allows the disc to continue cutting even when sanding softwoods, paints, and other materials that would otherwise clog the disc and hinder sanding ability. All of this adds up to increased productivity and reduced material consumption. For maximum dust extraction, use this disc with a 3M™ Hookit™ Clean Sanding pad and a random orbital sander with vacuum (both sold separately).
