PRODUCT FAQ
-
What is the 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F made of?
The 3M™ Cloth Belt 577F is composed of a blend of aluminum oxide and ceramic grain abrasive material.
-
Can it be used on various types of metal?
Yes, this belt can be utilized for grinding, sanding or any other finishing application on stainless steel, carbon steel, soft metals and more.
-
Does it have an efficient dust extraction system?
Yes! This cloth belt has an advanced Film-lok backing that reduces installation time by up to half. Additionally, its anti-static properties promote continual dust evacuation which increases long-lasting durability while minimizing the chance for damage.
-
How many belts come in each case?

Runs Cool on Heat-Sensitive Metals
3M™ Cloth Belt 577F is a versatile abrasive belt that is ideal for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings made of aluminum, mild steel, and stainless steel or other exotic metal alloys. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys, a grinding aid is incorporated in the belt to reduce running temperatures. The abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points and deliver a faster cut-rate than aluminum oxide. A synthetic mineral, it was developed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding.
Sized to Suit Your Needs
Abrasive belts come in many different widths and lengths and are used on a variety of different belt sanding tools for many different metalworking applications. 3M offers a broad selection of belts to fit most any industrial belt sander. Wider belts are used with wide belt sanders and feed-through style flat finishers to smooth rough-cut edges of metal sheets or add a grain pattern to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts are generally used on a backstand for weld removal or for imparting a finish. Narrow belts can be used on file tools to access right-angle corners for finishing.
