PRODUCT FAQ
-
What kind of surface preparation can I do with the Scotch-Brite™ Metal Finishing Wheel, MF-WL, 5A Coarse?
The Scotch-Brite™ Metal Finishing Wheel is designed to remove oxidation, rust, scratches and other defects from metal surfaces.
-
Is this wheel appropriate for use on stainless steel?
Yes! The Scotch-Brite™ Metal Finishing Wheel works well on stainless steel surfaces. It won't leave behind unsightly swirl marks or damage the metal like some other finishing methods can.
-
How long does each wheel typically last before needing replacement?
Each case contains three wheels that are six inches in diameter by one inch thick by three inches center hole (152mm x 25mm x 76mm), and may last for several projects depending on usage conditions. Your actual mileage may vary based on working conditions such as rotational speed and pressure applied during usage.
-
Can these wheels be used in a hand-held grinder or do they require specialized equipment?
These wheels are versatile tools and can be used either hand-held or mounted to a machine such as a bench grinder using an arbor adapter or extension that facilitates its attachment onto the tool's spindle while providing enough purchase range (gripping space) for secure installation.
-
Are there any safety concerns when using this type of abrasive product?
Yes, when working around machinery always take precautions including eye protection gear, body protective clothing (long-sleeved shirts etc.), ear plugs if operating noisy machines continuously over extended periods of time; monitor your surroundings regularly so you stay alert at all times. When switching between different grit finish options remember to slow down your motor first before changing out because rotating parts will spin freely even after power is off which could injure someone nearby if not careful.
Scotch-Brite™ Metal Finishing Wheel is a highly conformable wheel that is convolutely wound on a core to run smoothly and help create professional finishing results. It is used on softer metals like aluminum, copper, and brass to blend out minor surface imperfections and handling marks while providing the desired decorative finish on products such as builder's hardware and plumbing fixtures. Typically used on stationary machinery, the wheels are available in diameters of 6 to 16 inches and widths of 1/2 inch and greater. This product is available in grade CRS and MED.
The wheel uses aluminum oxide abrasive, which is widely used in grinding applications due to its high cut-rate, hardness, strength, and low heat retention. Aluminum oxide is suitable on a wide variety of substrates in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys.
Scotch-Brite™ industrial abrasives are unique surface conditioning products with abrasives incorporated into non-woven nylon or synthetic fibers. Combining abrasives with the fibers creates an abrasive system that delivers consistent results for the life of the product. The open-web material runs cool and is load resistant, which keeps the abrasive minerals cutting at high performance by limiting clogging of the fibers.
