PRODUCT FAQ
-
What is the 3M Microfinishing Film Roll used for?
The 3M™ Microfinishing Film Roll 372L is specially designed for finishing applications that require precision, consistency and uniformity.
-
How fine is the abrasive on the film roll?
This microfinishing film roll features a very fine-grade abrasive material with a grit size of 30 microns to achieve an exceptional level of surface finish.
-
What are some of the benefits of using this particular product compared to other options?
One benefit of using this microfinishing film roll over conventional abrasives, such as sandpaper or grinding stones, is its ability to provide consistent and predictable results in short periods. It’s also capable of achieving exacting levels of surface finishes uniformly across large areas due to its unique construction.
-
Can it be used on all types of materials and surfaces?
Yes! This versatile micro-finishing film roll can effectively work with a range variety and combination materials such as metal, ceramic coating,, glass and composite surfaces while achieving top-quality finishing results irrespective ensuring optimized manufacturing performance
-
. What sizes are available in your product line up ?
. We offer our Micro-Finishing Film Rolls in various forms from small medical device components upto broad sheet metals. Our current lineup includes various sizes, ranging from .5” x60”upto48"x54", thickness ranging from0.5 MILs-15MILs which comes packed together to make at least 12rolls per package
3M™ Microfinishing Film Roll 372L achieves an extremely consistent scratch for microfinishing by using micron-graded mineral, measured at tight size tolerances. The resin bond ensures reliable, consistent performance. The abrasive has a durable film backing that helps achieve tight geometry and finish tolerances. This microfinishing roll comes in a broad range of micron grades to achieve reproducible surface characteristics and geometric values that adhere to specification.
3M designed Type 2 film in a range of colors to reduce the risk of operator error. The color coding is a useful visual cue, as is sorting width by core size and side and end of roll printing and marking. In some applications, numerous grades are run simultaneously to achieve finishes that differ across the surface of a single complex part.
Film Backing Provides Uniformly Flat Vehicle for Finer FinishFilm backings provide a superior, uniformly flat surface to hold abrasive particles. Abrasive grains don't compress or become pressed into the backing. The polyester film backing is highly conformable and tear-resistant, flexing to help achieve a consistent finish over contours. It is stronger than comparable paper products, making it ideal for high-production environments.
For Flawless GeometriesManufacturers of critical automotive components have little room for error in producing parts to specification. Microfinishing removes variations in the surface, minimizes friction, and manipulates metal behavior in other ways. Engine component surfaces and geometry can be improved by using microfinishing, which is essential for finishes of crankshafts and camshafts that rotate on increasingly thinner films of oil.
Recommended Applications3M™ Microfinishing Films are used in the production of industrial components such as custom flanges and fittings for the oil and gas industry, as well as superfinishing of automotive parts, like crankshafts, camshafts, and transmission parts.
