The 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Instant Adhesive Primer AC79, Clear, 2 fl oz Bottle, 10/case is designed to improve adhesion of instant adhesives on certain low surface energy plastics and elastomers.

  2. Is it suitable for use on all surfaces?

This product is specially formulated to work with low surface energy plastic and elastomer parts only. To determine compatibility, always perform tests before using any adhesive.

  3. How much primer should I use per application?

Only a thin layer of the primer should be applied with a brush or swab in a well-ventilated area. One bottle can prime up to 1,000 square inches depending on part size and porosity.

Designed for Difficult-to-Bond, Low Surface Energy Rubbers

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Instant Adhesive Primer AC79 is specially formulated for low surface energy elastomers that are difficult to bond. To achieve the desired results, this primer should be applied to each low surface energy substrate surface.

Recommended Applications

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Instant Adhesive Primer AC79 improves the adhesion of cyanoacrylate adhesives to:

  • Difficult-to-bond flexible elastomers
  • EPDM
  • Silicone
  • Fluoroelastomers
Understanding Instant Adhesives

Instant adhesives are fast-acting, cyanoacrylate-based formulas used in industrial and household applications. They are an acrylic resin that rapidly polymerizes in the presence of moisture, forming long, strong chains that join the bonded surfaces together.

To ensure a strong bond, cyanoacrylate adhesives should be applied thinly with pressure put on the bond for a few seconds. 3M instant adhesives apply right from the container and rapidly reach handling strength at room temperature. A single drop per square inch can bond many plastics, rubbers, metals, wood, and more. In 2012, an instant adhesive from 3M set a Guinness World Record for the strongest glue by lifting an 8.1 metric ton forklift in the air for one hour.
