PRODUCT FAQ
-
What is the 3M™ Utility Cloth Roll used for?
The 3M™ Utility Cloth Roll is designed to perform light sanding and deburring on a variety of metals, as well as blending weld seams and removing rust or coatings.
-
What does "P240 J-weight" mean?
"P240" refers to the grit size of the abrasive particles on the cloth roll. It indicates that this product is medium-fine, suitable for surface preparation before painting or polishing. Meanwhile, "J-weight" stands for an open-coated abrasive made with a blended textile backing. This means it's more flexible than closed coat options, thus conformable to curved surfaces.
-
How many pieces come in one case of this product?
Each case consists of five (5) utility cloth rolls measuring 1-1/2 inches wide and 20 yards long each.”
Product Description:
The sanding strip is a versatile product that can be torn from the roll to fit specific applications. Most grades have a light, J-weight cloth backing that allows for flexibility when sanding circular edges, angles, or other contours. For more coarse sanding applications, rolls in grades P50 or P60 have a slightly stiffer X-weight backing. The cloth backing remains durable even when bent or rolled, without tearing or shelling. Additionally, strips can be torn by hand when a smaller piece is needed, without compromising the sanding surface.
Aluminum Oxide:
Aluminum oxide is a popular choice among industrial professionals due to its fast cut-rate and long life. This mineral creates a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, unlike traditional natural abrasives that dull more quickly. Aluminum oxide abrasive is suitable for a wide variety of materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. It can be used on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, and plastic.
