- Replacement for 5-minute epoxy, offering improved performance and more positioning time
The 1:1 mix ratio of our 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive DP125 Gray is ideal for bulk mixing. With a 25-minute work life, there is some opportunity for repositioning to keep projects on track. The adhesive reaches handling strength in approximately 150 minutes and is fully cured in 7 days at 72°F/22°C.
Epoxy adhesives, including our Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive DP125 Gray, are part of the class of adhesives called "structural adhesives." These adhesives, which also include polyurethane, acrylic, cyanoacrylate, and others, are formulated as liquid reactive polymers. When mixed, they undergo a chemical reaction and cure to form a solid plastic material. The curing process begins once the two parts are mixed in their specified ratio, allowing for a limited working time during which the adhesive can be applied and the surfaces positioned as needed. This work life can range from a few minutes to several hours.
Epoxy adhesives offer high shear and peel strengths, depending on the formula, as well as better heat and chemical resistance compared to other common adhesives. They have the highest overall strength and provide excellent performance and resistance to high temperatures, solvents, and outdoor weathering.
Epoxy adhesive, often referred to as epoxy glue, finds wide usage in building and home construction, aircraft and automobile manufacturing, and assembly of bicycles, boats, golf clubs, skis, and snowboards. It is also popular for various home use and other applications. These adhesives are favored for their ease of use, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance. Formulations can be tailored to create epoxy for plastic that is flexible or epoxy for metal that is rigid. Epoxy resin can be transparent or opaque, and the adhesive can be quick-setting or slow-setting. The versatility of these adhesives allows for bonding wood, metal, glass, stone, and various plastics to meet almost any requirement.
