It is important to note that 3M recommends the application of all seam sealers, including direct-to-metal seam sealers, over a 2K primer. 3M OEM Match Epoxy Seam Sealer is designed for application over various surfaces, including bare steel, galvanized steel, aluminum, 2K urethane primer, 2K Epoxy primer, or cleaned and prepped OEM finishes. However, it should never come into direct contact with acid etch primers. To ensure proper adhesion, the surface should be washed with an appropriate VOC-compliant product for the removal of surface contaminants. Bare metal surfaces should be sanded with an appropriate 3M 50-180 grit abrasive, while previously painted and primed surfaces should be scuffed with a Scotch-Brite General Purpose Hand Pad.
