Metal bonding of the diamond grain to the cloth backing ensures durability, and multiple open dot patterns deliver a range of capabilities from stock removal to finer surface finishes.

Combining the strength of a diamond mineral and a durable, water-resistant cloth backing, 3M Flexible Diamond 6456J is specifically designed for processes that require precision and excellent dimensional tolerance, such as centerless grinding and superfinishing. It features a very close to zero caliper splice, ensuring uniform belt thickness and avoiding splice bumping.

This diamond abrasive is highly effective at finishing hard-to-grind surfaces including stone, glass, ceramic, metal, carbides, and composites.

Built Tough, Finishes Fine

3M utilizes a metal bond to adhere the diamond abrasive on 3M Flexible Diamond 6456J. Metal bonds are known for their toughness compared to resin or vitrified bonds. This, combined with a low stretch water-resistant cloth backing, creates a product that is well-suited for both centerless grinding and superfinishing.

Open Dot Pattern: What Does it Mean?

The open dot pattern on each 3M Flexible Diamond abrasive is designed to provide aggressive cutting action while allowing consistent space for evacuation of stock particles during use. This helps reduce loading and prolongs the life of the abrasive surface without sacrificing cut rates.

3M Flexible Diamond 6456J is available in three open dot patterns for a range of uses. Pattern 18 has a small dot pattern with 25 pellets per inch. The B2 Pattern has medium dots with 17 pellets per inch, delivering an aggressive cutting action with improved coolant flow and increased swarf removal. Pattern 21, offered for grades 250 and 300 only, utilizes larger dots to assist in applications where high stock removal is required and loading is an issue. Generally, smaller dot patterns are less aggressive and produce finer finishes, while larger dot patterns are more aggressive for stock removal.
