The Scotch-Brite SE Surface Conditioning Low-Stretch Belt

The Scotch-Brite SE Surface Conditioning Low-Stretch Belt is designed with a firm, stretch-resistant woven nylon backing that is perfect for applications with high belt tensions. It is ideal for use with backstand machines, file belt tools, and other machine applications that require minimal belt stretch.

The open web design of the Scotch-Brite belt resists loading, ensuring a longer lifespan and consistent performance. This design also provides the flexibility needed to achieve consistent results on contoured surfaces and edges without causing gouging or undercutting of the workpiece. This means greater productivity and lower inventory costs for operators. They can rely on Scotch-Brite belts to consistently produce a high-quality finish, part after part, throughout the life of the belt.

The belt is engineered to deliver high initial and extended rates of cut, while maintaining superior edge durability. It is an excellent choice for working on intricate details, contours, and edges to remove surface imperfections, grindlines, mill marks, and other blemishes. If you require a backing that is firmer or smoother than what the low-stretch belt provides, you may want to consider trying a film-backed belt.

Scotch-Brite SE Surface Conditioning Low-Stretch Belts are available in coarser grades with aluminum oxide abrasive and finer grades with silicon carbide abrasive. Silicon carbide is a synthetic mineral known for its sharpness and is commonly used for low-pressure applications such as paint prep and finishing. Aluminum oxide, on the other hand, is a hard and blocky mineral that offers high cut-rate and long life. While silicon carbide may break down faster than aluminum oxide, it produces a finer finish.

Belt sanders are versatile tools used for rapid grinding, sanding, and finishing on surfaces of various sizes and shapes. 3M offers a wide selection of belts to fit almost any industrial belt sander. Wide belt sanders are specifically designed for finishing or deburring large sheet metal parts. Medium width belts are suitable for backstands, benchstands, and portable belt sanders, and are used for scratch refinement, achieving Ra finish requirements, or applying a stainless steel aesthetic finish. Narrow belts, on the other hand, are used with file tools or expander wheels to access small areas or inside corners.

What makes Scotch-Brite industrial abrasives unique is their nonwoven technology. These abrasives are made up of a combination of fiber strands, resin, and abrasive mineral, forming a thick and open web. The spring-like nature of the fibers allows them to respond to contours effectively, removing unwanted burrs, soils, and contaminants while maintaining the geometry of the workpiece. This reduces the need for rework and boosts productivity. The gaps in the web also allow swarf to escape, preventing debris from clogging the mineral. Additionally, the fibers in the web continually break down with use, revealing fresh mineral for exceptional consistency, superior cut performance, and an extremely long service life.

Scotch-Brite abrasives not only enhance productivity but also increase operator safety. They are suitable for a wide range of applications, including aesthetic finishing, weld blending, deburring, and more. With Scotch-Brite abrasives, you can expect fast and consistent results, part after part.
