-

The 3M PELTOR SwatTac V is a high-performance headset designed for clear and accurate sound replication. It features omni-directional microphones and high fidelity speakers that are optimized to transmit voice communication with great sensitivity. The result is a more natural sounding headset with unmatched sound clarity.
In addition to the environmental microphones, the legacy boom mic has been replaced with the MT33. This new boom mic greatly improves audio transmit in various noise conditions and provides 18db in noise cancellation, compared to the previous microphone's 6db. This improvement ensures clear communication even in noisy environments.
The SwatTac V also features a modern rubberized headband that is easy to remove, allowing users to convert to ARC adapters if desired. The headband is designed to withstand heavy maritime environments, providing increased environmental resistance.
With the rise of new, multi-channel software defined radios, 3M has increased the overall immunity to Radio Frequency (RF) susceptibility and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) in its COMTAC platform. The headset now includes shielding within the cables and around the circuitry to ensure it remains unaffected by the effects of these new radio systems.
The ComTac 5, part of the SwatTac V series, utilizes a U-174 plug and can connect directly into existing push-to-talk radio adapters. 3M has also updated the software to allow users to easily access the audio customization features of the ComTac platform. These features include:
- Balance Mode: Adjusts the volume balance between the left and right speaker, allowing the operator to prioritize audio or adjust to personal preference.
- Release Time: Adjusts the time before the limiter opens after activation. The default setting is optimized for combat operations, but extended delays may be more suitable for indoor firearms training.
- Volume Boost: Increases the volume of ambient sound and external input by about 6dB, useful in applications where double hearing protection is required with a properly fitted ear-plug.
- Equalizer Function: Further adjusts the preset frequency setting, optimized for combat operations. In other types of operations, such as ground vehicle and airborne platforms, this function helps improve the signal-to-noise ratio by reducing low frequencies.
