3M PTFE Skived Film Tape 5481 uses a skived, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), conformable film backing. This tape offers an extremely low coefficient of friction which, in combination with a pressure sensitive silicone adhesive, creates a smooth, non-stick surface over a variety of substrates to assist in the movement of web materials in many types of roll-wrap applications.
- Non-stick PTFE film provides an exceptionally slick surface for easy clean-up
- Silicone adhesive provides clean removal from a variety of surfaces
- Wide temperature range for performance on heated machinery and equipment
- Thicker version of 3M™ PTFE Skived Film Tape 5480, providing more durability and longer wear
- Skived 3M™ PTFE Film Tapes are more conformable than typical extruded PTFE film tapes
- Excellent chemical resistance enables tape to withstand challenging applications

PRODUCT FAQ
-
Certainly! Here are some common questions about the 3M™ PTFE Film Tape 5481
Is the 3M™ PTFE Film Tape 5481 suitable for outdoor use?
-
Yes, the tape is designed to resist damage from weather and UV exposure, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications.
Can I use this tape on high-temperature surfaces?
-
Absolutely! The PTFE material can withstand temperatures up to 400°F (204°C), making it perfect for high-heat environments.
How many rolls come in a case of the 3M™ PTFE Film Tape 5481?
-
Each case contains 7 rolls of tape, each measuring at a width of one inch and a length of 36 yards.
What thickness is the film tape?
-
The film tape has a thickness of 6.8 mil, offering durability and reliability for various sealing and masking tasks.
This skived film backing provides excellent conformability when unwound from the roll, unlike typical extruded PTFE film tapes. 3M has developed this tape as a convenient solution to reduce friction between moving surfaces. It serves as an anti-stick or easy-release medium between surfaces that may experience adhesion due to pressure, temperature changes, and other factors. By applying 3M PTFE Skived Film Tape 5481, you can enhance surface movement, eliminate squeaks and rattles, and reduce machine noise. PTFE is resistant to chemicals and can be used as a temporary chemical barrier. The tape has a wide temperature range, from -65F/-54C to 500F/260C, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications.
Recommended Applications- Roll-wrap for web processing, belts, and plates where sticky materials and inks may occur
- High temperature wire bundling and harnessing
- Squeak and noise reduction
- Shielding and protecting against chemicals
- Mold release for composite bonding
What is PTFE?
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic material widely used in various industries and applications to reduce friction. Its non-stick properties and high heat resistance make it an ideal non-stick coating for frying pans and other cookware. PTFE is also an excellent insulating material for electrical applications due to its non-conductivity. It is non-reactive to numerous chemicals, making it effective for containers and pipework handling reactive and corrosive substances. PTFE significantly reduces friction, wear, and improves energy efficiency in machinery. Its low friction properties make it suitable for industrial applications requiring sliding action of parts, such as bearings, gears, and slide plates. In these applications, PTFE outperforms nylon or acetal. 3M has utilized an extrusion process to create a thin film from this versatile compound and combined it with their unique pressure-sensitive adhesives to produce these PTFE tapes. The innovative and high-performance 3M PTFE tapes are reliable, durable, and effectively reduce friction.
