What sets this wheel apart from other Scotch Brite™ abrasives is the 3M Precision-Shaped Grain, which is a proprietary mineral that is interwoven throughout the abrasive and engineered for hardness and strength. The mineral is sharp-cutting and counteracted by soft, buoyant nylon fibers that respond to surface irregularities and contours. The gaps between fibers allow debris to escape and help minimize loading. The web and mineral work together to aggressively tackle the substrate without sacrificing predictable results.

Unitized wheels differ from convolute wheels because they feature a layered construction instead of being wound around a core. The open web is cured and compressed for added strength and durability. The unique production method makes unitized wheels a good match for edges and contours. Additionally, the wheels may be run clockwise or counter-clockwise. 3M recommends using this wheel with the 3M™ Die Grinder (sold separately).
