PRODUCT FAQ

  1. What materials is the 3M™ Fibre Disc 782C TN Quick Change suitable for?

The 3M™ Fibre Disc 782C TN Quick Change is designed to work well on various metals such as stainless steel, carbon steel, and other alloys. It provides consistent results across different materials.

  2. How does the quick change feature on this disc work?

The quick change feature allows for easy attachment and removal of the disc from your power tool without needing any additional tools. It saves time and effort during application changes.

  3. Can you tell me more about the grit size of the 80+ on these fibre discs?

The "80+" grit size indicates that these fibre discs have a medium-coarse abrasive texture, making them ideal for blending applications and preparing surfaces for further finishing.

Premium Performance Tackles Carbon Steel Applications

Balance cost and output by selecting the abrasive with precisely the right amount of cut and life, no more and no less. The 3M Fibre Disc 782C contains Precision Shaped Grain (PSG) to optimize the balance of speed and longevity for many carbon steel operations. The disc construction includes a stiff fiber backing and strong resin bond that provide durability and tear-resistance. Along with its fast-cutting abrasive grain, this disc enables operators to complete more parts per disc and requires fewer disc changes.

The exceptional life and cut of the 782C Fibre Disc make it one of 3M's best grinding discs for high production environments, providing significant gains over conventional fiber discs. When a higher-tier fiber disc may be under-utilized but productivity is still your bottom line, the 782C Fibre Disc delivers outstanding throughput. This fiber disc is an excellent choice for a range of applications such as:

  • Edge chamfering
  • Beveling
  • Deburring
  • Weld removal

Step Up Production with 3M Precision Shaped Grain

Developed for improved output on light to heavy stock removal, 3M Precision Shaped Grain (PSG) lets operators finish tough tasks faster and with less fatigue. PSG abrasives last significantly longer than conventional ceramic counterparts due to their even wear and sharpness retention. This ensures extended high performance in production applications.

To achieve this level of performance, 3M engineers utilize proprietary microreplication technology to create precise triangular structures of 3M Ceramic Abrasive Grain. These structures are then electrostatically oriented on the backing to form sharp peaks. The ultra-sharp peaks of PSG abrasives slice cleanly through metal, continuously self-sharpening as the points break off, rather than gouging or "plowing" like conventional abrasives.

Attachment Styles

To suit various project needs, the 782C Fibre Disc is available in different sizes and attachment styles. The 7/8 inch center hole (CH) discs require the use of a 3M disc pad face plate and 3M hub. This ensemble is attached to a right angle grinder with a disc retainer nut (all sold separately). GL and TN style discs are also available, featuring convenient built-in fasteners for reliable attachment to the tool and easy disc changes between applications. Smaller sized discs with quick change attachments are sold separately as 3M Roloc Fibre Disc 782C.

Tips for Optimal Use

Fiber discs are heavy-duty abrasives with a tough, stiff backing made from vulcanized fiber that resists wear and can handle tough grinding applications. For optimal performance, the disc should be used with a face plate of the appropriate density for the application. A lighter density face plate is recommended for lighter weight grinding applications, while a harder density face plate is suitable for more heavyweight grinding applications. Using the correct face plate ensures that the abrasive mineral will re-sharpen, maximizing the life of the abrasive.
