This innovative mat is designed to block heat by chemically absorbing it when exposed to extreme temperatures. As the mat absorbs heat, it releases chemically bound water, which cools the outer surface of the mat. This unique process helps to reduce the rate of temperature rise and slows down heat transfer, even during intense fires.
The 3M Interam Endothermic Mat E-5A-4 provides up to 4-hour fire protection for structural steel applications in accordance with ASTM E 119. It also offers up to 3-hour fire protection for electrical circuit applications in accordance with ASTM E 1725. Additionally, when applied to the back and sides of metallic utility boxes, the endothermic mat helps achieve an equal F-rating and T-Rating in membrane penetrations of rated wall assemblies. Furthermore, it offers protection against large hydrocarbon pool fires in accordance with ASTM E 1529 (UL 1709).
