With its proprietary adhesive, this tape sticks instantly to most surfaces, including metal, rubber, glass, and plastic, while still being able to be removed cleanly in one piece. The high-strength crepe-paper backing of the tape conforms to irregular surfaces, resists bleed through from most industrial paint systems, improves visibility during the paint masking process, and helps achieve clean paint lines.

The 3M Specialty High Temperature Masking Tape 501+ is not only conformable for easy masking around corners and over irregular surfaces, but it also offers easy handling that reduces application time. This tape can be qualified for ASTM D-6123 (replaces obsolete PPP-T-42C, Type I, (CID-A-A-883B).

What is Masking Tape?

Masking tape was specifically developed to protect surrounding surfaces from overspray, provide clean paint lines, and remove easily and cleanly when finished. 3M masking tapes adhere well, resist solvents or water from the paint, and are strong enough to hang plastic sheeting, yet remove cleanly without damaging the subsurface. The backing, typically crepe paper, can conform to curved and irregular surfaces. The tape can be easily torn by hand for tool-free application.

A good masking tape should specify the surfaces it will stick to and the interval over which it will remove cleanly. Thin or poorly manufactured tapes may demonstrate splintering or shredding, either coming off the roll or when being removed after use.
