Standard Abrasives Buff and Blend AP Disc is an equally tough and pliable abrasive designed for medium duty cleaning, edge deburring and antique finishing on a variety of metals, including ferrous alloys.
- Open web is flexible and pliable, so it will not gouge the substrate and sustain part geometry
- Aluminum oxide mineral is friable and sharp, revealing fresh, sharp cutting edges for a consistent scratch
- May be run with a lubricant to help eliminate swarf and potential for smearing the substrate
- Available in very fine (VFN, red) and medium (MED, tan) grades to accommodate project needs
- Open web is load resistant, so abrasive will not get clogged with debris, contributing to longer service life

Standard Abrasives™ Buff and Blend AP Disc strikes a balance between toughness and pliability. AP material is the thinnest Buff and Blend material, which enhances the disc's flexibility and ability to conform to the substrate. Yet, the high density of AP material creates an aggressive disc that is more tear resistant than Buff and Blend GP. Use this disc for medium-duty cleaning applications on parts with close tolerances; remove unwanted layers of paint, corrosion, sealants, adhesive and coatings.
This disc is made with aluminum oxide mineral, which cuts sharp but is still friable – fragmenting under heat and pressure to reveal sharp cutting edges. The abrasive is available in medium (MED, tan) and very fine (VFN, red) grades, so you can select the best grade for your application. Typically, very fine grades deliver a soft scratch pattern and a medium grade delivers an aggressive scratch pattern.
The Many Benefits of Open Web AbrasivesStandard Abrasives™ Buff and Blend products offer many benefits. Different Buff and Blend materials help distinguish Buff and Blend products from each other, but all Buff and Blend products have open web. Open web combines abrasive mineral and nonwoven nylon fibers with a resin-reinforced bond. The resin bond securely anchors mineral to the fibers, making for a strong, durable abrasive. The spongy, open web is flexible, responsive and conforms to irregular surfaces, so you can tackle ridges and contours without gouging or marring the substrate, reducing waste and the need for rework.
Gaps between fibers allow swarf to escape, so the abrasive does not get clogged with debris. Minimizing swarf and debris prolongs abrasive service life and keeps minerals cutting sharper for longer. Nylon fibers won't splinter during grinding, offering a good alternative to steel wool. Moreover, as the fibers break down and fresh mineral is exposed, it reduces the likelihood of dull or blunt mineral smearing the surface. Standard Abrasives™ Buff and Blend products deliver a consistent cut and finish – part after part.
