The Standard Abrasives Rubber Sanding Drum holds an abrasive band for contour work (band sold separately). Constructed from rubber, the drum expands at high speed for the closest possible fit with a band of the same size for controlled operation. This enables it to run smoothly over contoured surfaces and into hard-to-reach areas without skipping or jumping for a smooth, precise finish.

  • Rubber drum enables controlled expansion of a spiral band for proper balance and smooth running at high speeds (band sold separately)
  • Non-slip drum surface securely holds spiral band
  • Enables polishing, finishing and blending on contours when smooth running is essential
  • Pairs with coated abrasive bands or non-woven surface conditioning bands
  • Use same diameter drum and band
  • Range of sizes helps ensure an ideal match between drum size and part for optimal results

PRODUCT FAQ

  1. What makes the Standard Abrasives™ Rubber Sanding Drum different from other sanding drums?

The Standard Abrasives™ Rubber Sanding Drum is made with a high-quality rubber that provides flexibility, durability and consistent finishes.

  2. Can this sanding drum fit on any power tool?

Yes, 3M’s Standard Abrasives™ Rubber Sanding Drum can be used on any power tool that accepts its size specifications of 1 in x 1-1/2 in x 1/4 inch.

  3. How long will one case last me if I have plenty of sanding tasks?

Each case comes with ten units so it depends on how much wear each unit goes through per use. However, our customers have reported long-lasting performance and less shelling out compared to other brands' products.

  4. : When do you recommend using the rubber sanding drum over others types of abrasives?

: Choose the standard abrasive rubber bands when working on contoured surfaces or irregular shapes where flexibility and conformability are best needed.

  5. Q : Is there anything else i need to take note of?

A : Yes. Always remember to match your specific application requirements for maximum finish quality by selecting appropriate grades as per grit size indication described at back side of product pack label guide chart, which corresponds to our range available from coarsest of all but fastest cutting actions (24)to finest scrub(320).

Smooth, Balanced Application

When it comes to achieving balanced handling and an abrasive belt won't fit the part, the Standard Abrasives™ Rubber Sanding Drum is the perfect solution. This drum can be fitted with a Standard Abrasives™ Spiral Band (sold separately) which can be a coated abrasive for polishing and blending, or a non-woven surface conditioning product for effective finishing. The Standard Abrasives™ Rubber Sanding Drum offers an even application on contours and hard-to-reach areas with a rotary tool.

Tips for Optimal Use

To prevent skipping and bumping, it is important for both the drum and the abrasive to have the same nominal diameter. The spiral band stays in constant contact with the workpiece to swiftly rid the surface of little burrs. The maximum allowable RPM for spiral bands is the same as the maximum RPM of the drum, provided the drum and band have the same nominal diameter. The rubber drum attaches to portable drills, die grinders, straight shaft and angle grinders. The great news is, the drum requires no extra tools for band changes.
