PRODUCT FAQ
-
What is 3M™ Damping Aluminum Foam Sheets 4014?
3M™ Damping Aluminum Foam Sheets 4014 are a vibration damping material that can help reduce vibrations and noise in a variety of industrial applications.
-
What size does the sheet come in, and how many sheets do I get in each case?
The sheet comes in a size of 6 inches x 48 inches, with a thickness of 250 mil. Each case contains one pack with a total of fifty (50) sheets per case.
-
How can this product benefit me?
This product can improve the overall quality and performance of your application by reducing noise and preventing damage caused by unwanted vibrations. It's easy to install, provides excellent durability, high-temperature resistance, and has strong adhesion properties.
Sized for applications with larger damping areas, 3M™ Damping Aluminum Foam Sheet 4014 attenuates and reduces the resonant sound and vibration in thin sheet metal, plastic panels and support structures. It features a 250 mil open cell polyurethane foam with a 3.0 mil aluminum-urethane backing. The strong, pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive allows for quick and easy application to the vibrating component, requiring only finger pressure to establish a lasting bond. The foam absorbs the vibration, or "strain energy," and together with the backing dissipates it into a small amount of heat. This function reduces continuous vibration through attenuation, which reduces noise and decreases metal fatigue during everyday wear. It also limits vibration caused by impact, helping components remain strong and stable over time. This product meets F.A.R. 25.853(b).
Recommended Applications- Larger-scale jobs where cost-per-pound ratios are important
- Reduce resonant noise, vibration and fatigue in metal panels and support structures
- Applications requiring flame resistance, thermal conductance or resistance to low temps
- Chutes, conveyors, bins, metal shop boxes and tables where metal contact causes vibration
- General noise reduction
- Die cutting aluminum foil parts for aerospace applications - F.A.R. 25.853(b)
3M™ Damping Aluminum Foam Sheet 4014 provides good thermal insulation and is tested to perform at temperatures as low as -94°F (-70°C). It also delivers excellent resistance to moisture, aging, and fatigue.
