Formed from a light brown woven glass cloth backing impregnated with PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), 3M General Purpose PTFE Glass Cloth Tape 5153L provides a slick surface on process machinery. This tape offers an extremely low coefficient of friction which, in combination with a pressure sensitive silicone adhesive, creates a non-stick surface that performs at elevated temperatures.
- Glass cloth reinforced backing provides greater tensile strength and resistance to tears and punctures than typical PTFE film backed tapes
- Silicone adhesive offers high temperature performance and long aging
- Thicker backing helps extend the service life over thinner versions when subjected to abrasion and wear
- Linered version of 3M™ General Purpose PTFE Glass Cloth Tape 5153 makes tape ideal for die cutting or applications requiring increased stability
- Provides a non-stick, low friction surface on heat sealing and packaging equipment
- Performs under a wide range of temperatures, including up to 500°F/260°C

PRODUCT FAQ
-
What is PTFE Glass Cloth Tape?
PTFE Glass Cloth tape is a high-temperature tape made from woven glass cloth coated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).
-
What does 8 mil mean?
8 mil represents the thickness of the tape. It indicates that each layer of backing material in this product measures roughly 0.008 inches thick.
-
How wide and long is one roll per case?
One roll per case measures approximately 36 inches by 36 yards, which is equivalent to about 108 feet or just under 33 meters.
-
Does this light brown version look different than typical transparent PTFE tapes?
Yes, there's a slight color difference between the two versions. This particular product features a light brown color for easy visibility on various surfaces/materials.
-
Where can I use it?
.: You could use this General Purpose PTFE Tape in areas where extreme temperatures and/or strong chemicals are present like industrial appliances, laboratory equipment, textile manufacturing machinery & more. They ensure secure sealing against electroplating chemicals & help maintain higher yields during pressure bonding applications!
For high strength applications requiring increased durability, look no further than 3M™ General Purpose PTFE Glass Cloth Tape 5153L. This reinforced PTFE tape is resistant to most chemicals and provides a quick and durable solution to help reduce build-up on packaging and heat sealing machines. It functions as an anti-stick or easy-release medium between surfaces where pressure, temperature changes and other factors may create a measure of adhesion. PTFE is chemical resistant and can be used as a temporary chemical barrier. The tape has a wide temperature use range, from -100°F/-73°C to 500°F/260°C, making it suitable for a variety of high temperature applications. This is a linered version of our 3M™ General Purpose PTFE Glass Cloth Tape 5153. The liner increases the stability of the tape for ease of die cutting or other converting applications.
Recommended Applications- Heat sealing machines
- Ironing and pressing equipment
- High temperature bundling
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic material used in a variety of industries and applications to reduce the coefficient of friction. PTFE is non-reactive to numerous chemicals, due to the chemical resistance of fluoropolymer bonds; making it effective in containers and pipework for reactive and corrosive substances. PTFE reduces friction, wear and energy efficiency of machinery. Because of its low friction, PTFE is used in industrial applications where sliding action of parts is required, such as with bearings, gears, slide plates, etc. In these applications, it delivers significantly better performance than nylon or acetal. 3M has taken this versatile compound through an extrusion process to create a thin film, then paired the film with 3M's unique pressure sensitive adhesives to make these PTFE tapes. Innovative, high performance 3M PTFE tapes are reliable, durable and reduce friction.
