The Standard Abrasives Rubber Sanding Drum holds an abrasive band for contour work (band sold separately). Constructed from rubber, the drum expands at high speed for the closest possible fit with a band of the same size for controlled operation. This enables it to run smoothly over contoured surfaces and into hard-to-reach areas without skipping or jumping for a smooth, precise finish.
- Rubber drum enables controlled expansion of a spiral band for proper balance and smooth running at high speeds (band sold separately)
- Non-slip drum surface securely holds spiral band
- Enables polishing, finishing and blending on contours when smooth running is essential
- Pairs with coated abrasive bands or non-woven surface conditioning bands
- Use same diameter drum and band
- Range of sizes helps ensure an ideal match between drum size and part for optimal results

Smooth, Balanced Application
When it comes to achieving balanced handling, using an abrasive belt may not always be the best solution. In such cases, the Standard Abrasives™ Rubber Sanding Drum, when fitted with a Standard Abrasives™ Spiral Band (sold separately), can be an excellent alternative. The spiral band can be a coated abrasive for polishing and blending, or a non-woven surface conditioning product for effective finishing. The Standard Abrasives™ Rubber Sanding Drum offers an even application on contours and hard-to-reach areas with a rotary tool.
Tips for Optimal Use
For optimal use, it is important for both the drum and the abrasive to have the same nominal diameter to prevent skipping and bumping. The spiral band stays in constant contact with the workpiece to swiftly rid the surface of little burrs, rather than deflecting or skidding over the substrate. The maximum allowable RPM for spiral bands is the same as the maximum RPM of the drum, provided the drum and band have the same nominal diameter. Typically, the rubber drum attaches to portable drills, die grinders, straight shaft and angle grinders. The great news is, the drum requires no extra tools for band changes.
