Cut to Custom Size or Shape for Hand Sanding or Tool Attachment

The Standard Abrasives Unitized Block - 800 Series is a versatile product that can be cut to size or shape for hand finishing or refining. It is especially useful for specialty applications where intricate or unique workpieces require a customized shape to achieve the desired result. Once the material is cut and dressed into the desired shape, such as a mounted point or other abrasive specialty, it can be easily attached to a tool using a unitized wheel mandrel (sold separately).

If you require a standard wheel shape for your applications, the Standard Abrasives line offers the Series 800 Unitized Wheels. These wheels are available with a center hole or quick change attachment (sold separately).

Hard Density Block Removes Challenging Burrs with Precision and Imparts a Fine Polish

The Standard Abrasives Unitized Block - 800 Series is made from two grades of aluminum oxide (A/O) mineral: coarse or medium. This block is known for its hardness, making it one of the more aggressive options among Standard Abrasives Unitized products. The coarseness of the mineral and the greater density allow the block to withstand high-pressure applications and cut aggressively, making it ideal for deburring and polishing tasks.

Some specific applications for the Standard Abrasives Unitized Block - 800 Series include deburring stainless steel pipe thread, removing wire edges from surgical instruments, polishing stainless steel sinks, tanks, and other equipment in the food service industry. It is also suitable for deburring gears and aircraft wing spars, as well as breaking edges on aluminum extrusions. When it comes to polishing, the 800 Series A/O Unitized Block is effective on stainless steel rule dies, welds on stainless steel sinks, machined surfaces, hand tools, and round tubing.

Non-Woven Unitized Construction Offers a Step Up in Density and Durability for Stubborn Surfaces

Standard Abrasives Unitized Blocks are designed with a non-woven unitized construction that provides increased density and durability for tough surfaces. Unlike Standard Abrasives Buff and Blend products, unitized blocks are specifically engineered for more aggressive applications and rapid material removal. The non-woven nylon fibers of the block allow it to respond to surface irregularities while maintaining the desired geometry and producing a consistent finish.

Unitized blocks are created by stacking layers of open web material that combines non-woven fiber strands and abrasive mineral with a tough resin bond. These layers are then cured and compressed together with heat, resulting in a stiffer and more durable product. The material's toughness allows it to perform high-pressure edgework without tearing or disintegrating. Regardless of the thickness of the block, it maintains its structural integrity and remains a stiff and long-lasting abrasive even under high pressure. The layers can also be dressed to refresh the block's shape as they wear.

Load-Resistant Construction Boosts Life and Performance

Standard Abrasives Unitized Blocks are designed to be load-resistant, meaning they prevent unwanted swarf from clogging the abrasive. The gaps in the open web structure allow debris to escape, keeping the mineral fresh and the cut consistent throughout the product's life. As the fibers break down, fresh mineral is exposed, reducing the likelihood of dull or blunt mineral smearing the surface. This results in cleaner surfaces and less re-work. Additionally, the load-resistant construction reduces manual fatigue that may occur from applying heavy pressure to a dull abrasive.

The Many Benefits of Standard Abrasives Non-Woven Products

Standard Abrasives Unitized products offer numerous benefits for heavy-duty jobs. They streamline deburring, cleaning, blending, and finishing applications by reducing the number of finishing steps required, minimizing costs, and increasing throughput. With their versatility, durability, and load-resistant construction, Standard Abrasives Unitized products are a reliable choice for achieving high-quality results.
