Scotch Tape 2242 is a linerless, general purpose electrical rubber tape that is 30 mil thick. It is specifically designed for bus bar insulation and moisture sealing of cable ends. This high voltage tape is flame retardant and ensures excellent tacking with its self-fusing ethylene propylene rubber resin adhesive. In addition to bus bar insulation and moisture sealing, Scotch Tape 2242 is also used for terminating and splicing wires and cables. It is suitable for wire and cable jacket repair and can maintain stability in temperatures up to 194°F (90°C) with a maximum voltage of 600V. This tape is weather resistant and offers excellent physical and electrical properties. It provides a moisture seal and void-free buildups. The tape is highly conformable and has a flexible rubber backing that resists UV rays, heat, and flame. It is ASTM approved and RoHS compliant. When applying Scotch Linerless Rubber Splicing Tape 2242, it is recommended to use successive half-lapped level wound layers until the desired buildup is achieved. To ensure there are no voids in critical areas, the tape should be highly elongated. Stretch the tape in these critical areas just short of the breaking point, as this will not affect its physical or electrical properties. In less critical areas, less elongation may be used. Typically, the tape is stretched to 3/4 of its original width in these critical areas. It is always advisable to attempt a half-lap to achieve a uniform buildup.
