PRODUCT FAQ
-
What is the 3M™ Stikit™ Disc Pad 82178 used for?
The 3M™ Stikit™ Disc Pad 82178 is designed to hold a variety of abrasive discs with the convenient stikit attachment system, and can be used for sanding flat surfaces.
-
How big is the disc pad?
The dimensions of this particular disc pad are 5 in x 1-1/4 in, which makes it a great size for medium-sized sanding projects.
-
Can you tell me more about the external threads on this product?
Certainly! This specific Stikit disc pad has an external thread that measures at 5/16-24. It's compatible with many different machines and can help create a secure fit when attaching abrasives.
In order to transfer the power of the sanding device to the work surface, the 3M™ Stikit™ Disc Pads provide well-balanced backup to drive the disc. These disc pads come in low profile, standard profile, and low profile finishing models. The Low Profile model is the most aggressive and is recommended for flat sanding operations and coarse grade abrasive products. The Standard Profile disc pad has a 45-degree tapered edge for flexibility, allowing the sanded area to be feather edged or more easily blended. It is recommended for use with medium grade abrasive products. The Low Profile Finishing disc pad provides the best finish and is the least aggressive. It can be used on flat surfaces or contoured surfaces with finer grade abrasive products.
For cleaner air and finer finishing results, Stikit™ Disc Pads are also available in dust-free versions. Dust-free versions are part of the dust-management system which feature the same multi-hole pattern in the abrasive disc and the disc pad, enabling dust extraction when used with self-generated vacuum or central vacuum tools. Abrasive discs cut better and last longer when dust isn't loading the cutting surface of the abrasive.
Stikit™ AttachmentThe 3M Stikit™ system was designed for convenient changes between abrasive grades or applications. Stikit™ abrasives come ready to use with a pressure-sensitive adhesive coating on the backside, making attaching them to the hand pad as simple as pressing on a sticker. They remove cleanly without adhesive residue left on the backup pad surface, making for fast change-outs, saving time, and prolonging the life of abrasives.
