PRODUCT FAQ

  1. What is 3M™ Microfinishing Film Roll 362L?

3M™ Microfinishing Film Roll 362L is a high-quality abrasive film roll designed for precision finishing of hard materials such as metals, ceramics, and composites.

  2. What are the dimensions of this product?

This specific version of the film roll measures at a width of 4 inches (101.6mm), length of 150 feet (45.75m), and has a keyed core with ASO technology for easy installation into compatible machinery or equipment.

  3. How fine is the grit on this microfinishing film?

The abrasive material on this particular roll has a particle size of just 15 microns - that's very small! It delivers consistent finishes down to less than one micron, which helps reduce scrap rates by minimizing sample rework or post-process cleaning.

  4. Are there any purchasing options available if I need more than one roll?

Yes! Each case contains four individual rolls per unit purchased together. If you need even larger quantities beyond what we offer through standard online shops or distribution channels, please get in touch with us for personalized assistance from our team.

Built for Microfinishing and Precision Manufacturing

When it comes to flat parts such as aluminum die castings, cylindrical or contoured tooling and machine parts, achieving consistent and predictable finishes is crucial. The 3M™ Microfinishing Film Roll 362L is designed to achieve close tolerances through a uniform film backing and micron-graded abrasive grain. The abrasive mineral is distributed precisely and uniformly over the backing, which helps produce a consistent, predictable finish each time.

The 3M™ Microfinishing rolls are commonly used to produce industrial components like custom flanges and fittings for the oil and gas industry. Automotive parts, such as crankshafts, camshafts, and transmission parts, must meet critical geometrical tolerances and exacting finish requirements. 3M™ Microfinishing films deliver exceptional results and are resistant to oils, water, and emulsions. Manufacturers also rely on microfinishing films for precision machining of steel printing components, dies for industrial equipment and supplies, and CNC machining parts.

Smooth, High-Strength Polyester Backing

The uniform thickness of the film provides a consistent backing for the precise application of resins and micron-graded mineral. The 3 mil polyester is helpful when close tolerances are important. In conjunction with high tolerance machines, the abrasive can consistently produce high tolerance parts and finishes that meet specifications.

Micron-Graded Aluminum Oxide

3M engineers the 3M™ Microfinishing Film Roll 362L by bonding fine micron-graded aluminum oxide mineral to the film backing. Due to the fine grade ranges, it's visually difficult to distinguish one grade from another. Some applications may require multiple grits on the same machine simultaneously, so the 3M™ Microfinishing film is color-coded to help avoid errors.

Industrial professionals rely on aluminum oxide for its fast cut-rate and long life. It makes a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges. Due to its fast cut-rate, hardness, and strength, it is used for a wide range of sanding and finishing applications and is engineered for a great number of applications.
