    The 855953 wheel by Standard Abrasives measures 12 inches x 1 inch x 5 inches and uses a FIN (fine) level of abrasion with grit size measuring in at ten.

  2. Can I buy less than two wheels per case or can I only buy them in boxes of two?

    For customer convenience, the Standard Abrasives GP Plus Wheel comes packaged to include two wheels per box. We do not sell smaller quantities than this setup.

  3. Is there anything special I should do to maintain my abrasive wheel while it is not being used?

    It's important that you store your abrasive equipment in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight when storing. You also want to avoid exposure to any humidity as much as possible.

  4. Is it easy for me to switch these wheels on my tool? How often should they be changed out for max performance?

    The standard GP plus wheel fits most discs easily with no additional fuss required. About every three weeks you'll need to make sure that you change the lapidary grinding disc over so that it stays well sharpened and continues performing well past average usage timeframes.

  5. What materials work best with the Standard Abrasives line of products?

    The beauty about this type of product range series is its flexibility; virtually all materials are capable of functioning properly under our brand's grinding services like metal, plastic, wood or even stone can undergo an appropriate revitalizing renewing through use.

Recommended Applications

The Standard Abrasives™ General Purpose Plus Wheel is a convolute wheel that winds an open web of abrasive grain, nylon fibers and resin around a core. The wheel provides excellent durability for the toughest edge and flat surface deburring applications. It's great for medium to heavy burr removal on parts with heavy edges and turbine blades. It may also be used for machine and belt mark blending, as well as fine finishing on parts like surgical tools.

The wheel utilizes either silicon carbide or aluminum oxide – and are available in medium to hard densities, ranging from 8 to 10. Together, these properties combine to cut aggressively, maintain wheel shape and stand up to edges. Nylon fibers in the open web break down while deburring the surface, exposing fresh, sharp mineral. The wheel breakdown contributes to consistent cutting action. Gaps between the nylon fibers allow swarf and debris to escape, keeping the mineral sharp and preventing blunt or dull edges that might gouge or blemish the surface of the workpiece. Subsequently, smear-resistant finishes result.

Tips for Optimal Use
  • As a convolute wheel, the Standard Abrasives™ General Purpose Plus Wheel should run at recommended operating speeds.
  • Use low to medium pressure, and in the direction of the arrow imprinted on the wheel.
  • Using lubricants may also help wash away unwanted swarf and debris and keep the abrasive running cool.
  • The wheel may be used on straight shaft stationary and portable tools, feed-through machines and automated equipment.
